We had Abelson measure out a door for walkout basement a few yrs ago and we were so happy with the door and impressed with how Roger was able to take a measurement from a window to accommodate the door, it fit perfectly! Fast forward 10 yrs and we needed to replace a few casement windows and of course Abelson hands down was who we were going to use. Roger was a pleasure to have in our home and take the measurements and help us decide on which window style would be best. Jen was the sweetest when we had to find a 2 day period that would work for the installation. The windows were installed by Mike who was absolutely outstanding! Putting in new windows in December with snow would not have been an easy task but he made it look easy. We had no issues leaving Mike at our home installing and working his magic while we were at work the one day, our dog loved him as well! Mike made sure to clean up after himself the best that he could and I really appreciated that. Overall the experience with Abelson from the time Roger came to take the measurements to when Mike installed them was a 10 star experience! I have used them twice and would absolutely recommend them to everyone.

We have used Abelson for years for our replacement windows and doors. Their products and service are exceptional. We are picky and always have unique requests and they have met our challenges every time. We always work with Roger and Mike. Jen in the office coordinates everything seamlessly and she’s always so friendly.

Abelson is one of the best companies for windows and doors! Among all the other companies that we requested quotes, Abelson was THE BEST! Offering the best price, best windows and doors and not to mention the quality of the installation. Everything went smoothly from day 1 when we got in touch with them. A big thank you to Roger, Jennifer and Mike. We already recommended the company to all our friends and family. It's really worth calling them. THEY ARE TRUE PROFESSIONALS in all aspects. Thank you. Over the past 16 years I've had Abelson replace all my windows. Staff are so nice and professional. Installation and the installers are nice and friendly. I'm very satisfied with my windows and especially my pocket book, as they are very reasonably priced! I highly recommend them!!

Installed windows in Kitchener a year but didn't finish and it's been over a year now. I call this company since before Christmas cause my patience has limits and it's been like 3 months now and all they said was my house settled. My house is 30 years old. It settled a tractor won't move it. This Roger is a sweet talker when it comes to salels but when it comes to respect the price or the warranty, that's what you get - first he said need more money, then he blocked my phone.

Before you hire a window and door installer in Ontario

No provincial licence is required. Installation quality is governed by manufacturer specification and the Ontario Building Code rather than by a trade certificate.

General liability insurance and WSIB clearance

Standard checks. Window installation involves ladder work and heavy glass.

Manufacturer-trained installer status

Matters more than usual here, because most window warranties are voided by installation that departs from the manufacturer specification.

Building permit for new or enlarged openings

Replacing a window in an existing opening generally does not need one. Cutting a new opening, or enlarging one for a basement egress window, generally does.

Verify with: Your municipal building department confirms what your specific job requires.

ENERGY STAR certification for the product

Relevant if you intend to claim any efficiency rebate, which typically requires certified products and documentation.

Questions worth asking

  • Is this a retrofit or a full-frame installation? What would the other one cost?
  • How is the gap between the window and the rough opening insulated and air-sealed?
  • Is exterior capping included, and in what colour and material?
  • Is the warranty on the glass seal, the frame, and the labour - and are they different lengths?
  • Is the warranty transferable if I sell the house?
