Contract Rating

Privacy notice

Last updated: August 2026

The short version: we have no accounts, run no advertising scripts, and do not sell your details to anyone. Analytics runs only if you accept it, and is used for nothing but counting visits.

1. Introduction

This Privacy Notice explains how Contract Rating ("we", "us", "our") handles information when you use contractrating.com (the "Site"). By using the Site you agree to the practices described here.

The Site is operated by an individual based in Ontario, Canada.

2. Information we collect

Very little, and none of it identifies you. We have no user accounts, no login, no newsletter, and no contact forms that transmit your project details to contractors.

Our hosting provider processes standard web server request data - including IP address - in the ordinary course of serving pages and protecting against abuse. We do not use that data to build a profile of you, and we do not combine it with anything else.

Business information shown on the Site is publicly available information about businesses, retrieved from the Google Places API. It is not personal information about you.

3. Cookies

The Site can use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are read. It is switched off until you accept it. If you accept, it sets first-party cookies in your browser (named _ga and similar) and sends Google a record of the pages you view, your approximate location derived from your IP address, and basic device and browser information.

Counting visits is the only thing that data is used for. We do not build a profile of you as an individual, do not combine it with anything else, do not use it for advertising, and do not sell or share it. The Site sets no advertising cookies and loads no advertising script on any page.

If you decline, the analytics script is never loaded and no analytics cookies are set - the notice is not simply hidden over a tag that runs anyway. You can change your mind at any time using the controls at the bottom of this page, and you can also opt out across all sites using the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on. The Site works normally either way.

Your choice is remembered in your browser only, using local storage rather than a cookie, so that declining does not itself require setting one. If advertising is introduced in future, this section will be updated before it goes live and consent will be asked for separately.

4. Third-party services

The Site relies on the following services:

  • Google Places API - used by us, on our servers, to retrieve publicly available business information including names, addresses, phone numbers, opening hours, ratings and reviews. Your browser does not contact Google as part of this.
  • Supabase - our database provider, which stores the contractor information described above. No personal user data is stored there.
  • Vercel - our hosting provider, which processes standard server request data in order to serve the Site.
  • Google Analytics - used in your browser to measure traffic, and only after you accept it. Unlike the Places API above, this one does mean your browser contacts Google directly. Google acts as our data processor for this and may process the data outside Canada.
  • Contractor photographs are served through our own server rather than loaded directly from Google, which means your browser does not make a request to Google when a listing photo is displayed.

5. How we use information

We use the limited technical data described above only to serve pages, keep the Site available, and diagnose faults. We do not sell, rent, or share information with third parties for marketing purposes, and we do not sell your details to contractors as leads.

6. Data retention

We do not maintain a database of Site visitors. Server request logs held by our hosting provider are retained according to that provider's own retention schedule.

Contractor business data retrieved from the Google Places API is stored in our database and refreshed periodically.

7. Your rights

As a resident of Canada you have rights under the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), including the right to access personal information an organisation holds about you and to request correction of inaccurate information.

Because we do not collect or store personal information about visitors, there is normally nothing for us to produce or correct. If you believe otherwise, contact us and we will look into it.

If you own or represent a business listed on the Site and want the listing corrected or removed, email us. Removal requests are honoured and we do not require a reason.

8. Children's privacy

The Site is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

9. External links

The Site links to contractor websites and other external sites. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites and encourage you to review their policies independently.

10. Changes to this notice

We may update this notice from time to time. Changes are posted on this page with a revised date at the top. Continued use of the Site after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated notice.
