Thank you, Cam! He was efficient, friendly, and informative. He shared with is that there would be a parade on a following night, which NO ONE ELSE knew about, and if they did, they did not share it with us.

I was hoping for a slice of paradise at the Margaritaville Resort in St. Thomas, USVI, but sadly, “it’s been a lovely cruise” doesn’t quite apply here. Instead, my stay felt more like living out “a permanent reminder of a temporary feeling.” Upon arrival, I found myself searching for that “lost shaker of salt,” but what I discovered was a poorly maintained property and staff who seemed more interested in “wasting away” than providing any semblance of service. “Trying to reason with hurricane season” seemed easier than getting any assistance or a smile from the front desk. The room? Let’s just say it wasn’t “a lovely place, with a lovely face.” The cleanliness left much to be desired, and the amenities were “changes in latitudes, changes in attitudes” from what was advertised. It felt more like being “a pirate looks at forty,” with outdated decor and non-functional appliances. Dining was another “fins to the left, fins to the right” disaster. Long waits, cold food, and “fruitcakes” in the service department made every meal a test of patience. If you’re dreaming of “cheeseburgers in paradise,” prepare to be sorely disappointed. As for activities, I had envisioned lazy days by the pool, but it was so crowded and noisy that I ended up feeling like I was “trying to describe the ocean if you’ve never seen it.” Peace and relaxation were impossible to find. In summary, my stay at Margaritaville Resort in St. Thomas was more “boat drinks” needed to cope with the disappointments than the tropical escape I hoped for. If you’re planning a trip here, I’d advise steering clear and looking for a place that truly embodies the spirit of “Margaritaville.”

Margaritaville was nice however, if you have problems walking long distances or climbing a lot of stairs you need to ask to be located near the main pool area at ground level. If not you will walk up several flights of stairs depending on your location on the hillside. We tried to wait for a golf cart shuttle but it would take well over 30 + mins to get a ride so we walked! Rooms are clean and everything was working with no issues. Roches are a real thing.. The pools were nice and the food was ok. The sunset cruise was fun and the captain and crew were entertaining and friendly and very enjoyable! Coki Beach is within walking distance and the water is beautiful there, just try to find out when no cruise ships are at the port so it's not too crowded.

We been here since Sunday, Wednesday was by far the best, finally got a awesome waiter, Wayne!! The first couple days the service was below mediocre , the food was the same. I'm not sure why Wednesday was different, but it was the first time I enjoyed it. I was going to leave this place with two stars 🌟 but thank you Wayne!! If it was like today every day, would have been a sure 5!!

Before you hire a pool builder in Ontario

Pool building itself is not a licensed trade, but the electrical work is, and the enclosure permit is mandatory.

Municipal pool enclosure permit

Required in essentially every Ontario municipality, usually before excavation begins. Bylaws specify fence height, gate self-closing and self-latching hardware, and how soon the enclosure must be in place. Enforcement is real and the liability if a child accesses an unfenced pool is severe.

Verify with: Your municipality's building or bylaw department.

ESA notification for pool electrical and bonding

Pool electrical must be installed by a licensed electrical contractor, and the metal structure must be bonded. This requires an ESA notification and inspection.

Verify with: The Electrical Safety Authority, esasafe.com.

Utility locates before excavation

Legally required. Gas and hydro service lines cross yards at unpredictable depths.

Verify with: Ontario One Call.

General liability insurance and WSIB clearance

Excavation near a house foundation carries real risk. Confirm coverage amounts.

Questions worth asking

  • What is the total installed cost including electrical, gas, decking, fencing and landscape restoration?
  • Who pulls the enclosure permit, and when must the fence be up relative to excavation?
  • Which licensed electrical contractor are you using, and will I receive the ESA Certificate of Acceptance?
  • What is the realistic installation window, and what happens if it slips past the season?
  • How is my deposit protected, and what is refundable if you cannot start?
