I have been using Mercawood electric for the past three years. No matter the issue I know I can count on Jeremy to make sure the service is done with care and expertise. Mercawood is always available. I never have to wait long especially when the situation is dire-such as my generator not working! Amanda is alway friendly and understanding. I wouldn’t hesitate to contact Mercawood for any electrical issue.

We had a great experience working with Mercawood to address various electrical needs around the house. Jeremy, Amanda, and their team are knowledgeable, flexible, communicative, and went the extra yard to make sure that everything is working in the right way. Would definitely recommend them!!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ We recently had Mercawood Electric install our Tesla charger, and the entire experience was excellent. The staff was incredibly responsive—quick to return calls and schedule the installation. Their pricing was very fair and offered great value compared to other quotes we received. The technicians were professional, knowledgeable, and clearly experienced with EV installations. Everything was done neatly and efficiently, and they took the time to explain the setup before leaving. Highly recommend Mercawood Electric for anyone considering a Tesla charger installation!

Recently had two European chandeliers installed by this company and it was a great experience. Communication was always prompt, follow-through was excellent, and they went the extra mile by giving me extra adaptors to enable the use of American light bulbs. Highly recommended.

Mercawood Electric showed up in the middle of an ice storm to evaluate the outdoor situation ( conduit pipes holding power lines pulled away from the house). Called with in an hour with an estimate. Very reasonable price. Came out very next day first thing and fixed the situation. Very polite, professional and kind. Would recommend them all day long.

Before you hire an electrician in Ontario

Yes, twice over. The person needs a 309A Certificate of Qualification; the business needs an ECRA/ESA Electrical Contractor Licence.

ECRA/ESA Electrical Contractor Licence

A seven-digit number that must appear on advertising, vehicles, quotes and invoices. If you cannot find it on the quote, ask - a licensed contractor is required to provide it.

Verify with: The Electrical Safety Authority publishes a contractor lookup at esasafe.com.

Certificate of Qualification, 309A Electrician

Held by the individual. A licensed contractor employs certified electricians and apprentices; the apprentices work under supervision.

Verify with: Skilled Trades Ontario maintains the public register.

ESA notification (the permit) for the specific job

Most work beyond replacing a light fixture requires the contractor to file a notification with ESA and have the work inspected. You should receive a Certificate of Acceptance when it passes. Keep it. You will want it when you sell.

Verify with: ESA confirms whether a notification was filed for your address.

General liability insurance and WSIB clearance

Two million in liability is standard. Electrical fires are the reason this is not a box-ticking exercise.

Questions worth asking

  • What is your ECRA/ESA licence number? (Then look it up before you sign anything.)
  • Will you file the ESA notification, and is the fee included in this price?
  • Will I receive the Certificate of Acceptance when the work passes inspection?
  • Is my panel at capacity? If this job needs a service upgrade, I want to know now rather than halfway through.
  • Who is physically doing the work - a certified electrician or an apprentice under supervision?
