Jake is exactly what you want in a contractor - professional, timely, efficient and detail oriented. He communicated clearly every step of the project, so nothing was ever a surprise. On multiple projects, he has worked with us to make sure that we are getting the exact result that we want. We will definitely be calling Miller Electric for all future projects, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend that you do the same.

After many frustrating experiences with contractors, working with Jake was a pleasure. He was very professional, showed up on time and well prepared, did great work and communicated clearly and efficiently. I would not hesitate to recommend him and will definitely be calling him again with future projects.
Sydney Colbert
Jake was professional and timely - he took care to ensure that our power was only turned off for as long as was needed to complete the job. He brought order to our original wiring and helped us with some other quick fixes that were outside of the scope of our original project once he saw our situation. We appreciated his attention to detail and explaining the process of what was being completed. I would recommend Jake to anyone looking to have electrical work done in their home!
Before you hire an electrician in Ontario
Yes, twice over. The person needs a 309A Certificate of Qualification; the business needs an ECRA/ESA Electrical Contractor Licence.
ECRA/ESA Electrical Contractor Licence
A seven-digit number that must appear on advertising, vehicles, quotes and invoices. If you cannot find it on the quote, ask - a licensed contractor is required to provide it.
Verify with: The Electrical Safety Authority publishes a contractor lookup at esasafe.com.
Check Miller Electric on the official registerCertificate of Qualification, 309A Electrician
Held by the individual. A licensed contractor employs certified electricians and apprentices; the apprentices work under supervision.
Verify with: Skilled Trades Ontario maintains the public register.
Check Miller Electric on the official registerESA notification (the permit) for the specific job
Most work beyond replacing a light fixture requires the contractor to file a notification with ESA and have the work inspected. You should receive a Certificate of Acceptance when it passes. Keep it. You will want it when you sell.
Verify with: ESA confirms whether a notification was filed for your address.
Check Miller Electric on the official registerGeneral liability insurance and WSIB clearance
Two million in liability is standard. Electrical fires are the reason this is not a box-ticking exercise.
Questions worth asking
- What is your ECRA/ESA licence number? (Then look it up before you sign anything.)
- Will you file the ESA notification, and is the fee included in this price?
- Will I receive the Certificate of Acceptance when the work passes inspection?
- Is my panel at capacity? If this job needs a service upgrade, I want to know now rather than halfway through.
- Who is physically doing the work - a certified electrician or an apprentice under supervision?
