I spun my wheels trying to fix a plumbing issue myself for three days, wanting to save money. If I had known how reasonable Doyle's pricing was I would never have wasted my time. After I gave up fixing it myself I called them, they showed up the next morning, and after two hours everything was done much better than I could have. Lesson learned. I doubt I'll ever try doing my own plumbing again.

Just had the great pleasure of meeting Aaron of Superior Plumbing and Heating. Aaron attended our home to provide a quote for a new hot water heater after ours suddenly quit after only approximately five years of use. Aaron was very knowledgeable and identified a gas supply issue for the new heater we were considering that the other companies had not noticed. If not for this visit from Aaron, we likely would have installed the heater and had problems down the road during periods of heavy gas use. Aaron continued to provide excellent service after the visit and answered any questions I had. He even reached out on his day off to ensure that any concerns or questions I had were addressed. He provided quotes for multiple heaters, and every quote was fair and competitive with those obtained from other companies. While we ultimately chose a competitor, it was a difficult decision. I don’t typically leave Google reviews, but I felt Aaron deserved some recognition for the hard work and excellent service he provided. If he is a reflection of the other employees at Superior Plumbing and Heating, I would 100% recommend them to anyone.

Unexpected leaks are not only disruptive but also anxiety inducing. Superior Plumbing to the rescue!! Kevin was beyond amazing. He was on time, Respectful, Thorough, Reassuring and he let me know what was happening every step of the way. My house was left spotless, the garbage was all removed, and the floors were cleaned up after the inspection. Kevin was very friendly and very professional and I highly recommend this company!

Before you hire a plumber in Ontario

Yes. Plumber (306A) is a compulsory trade in Ontario - working without certification is illegal, not just inadvisable.

Certificate of Qualification, 306A Plumber

The individual doing the work must hold this, or be a registered apprentice working under someone who does. Ask for the certificate number and the name it is issued to. It belongs to a person, not a company.

Verify with: Skilled Trades Ontario maintains the public register of certified tradespeople.

General liability insurance

Two million dollars is the common floor for residential work. Water damage escalates fast, and a burst supply line during a renovation can exceed a small policy in an afternoon.

WSIB clearance

If a worker is injured on your property and the contractor has no coverage, you can be drawn into the claim. A clearance certificate is free for the contractor to pull and takes minutes.

Verify with: WSIB issues clearance certificates directly to the contractor on request.

TSSA gas technician certificate (only if gas is involved)

G1, G2 or G3 depending on scope. Required for anything connecting to a natural gas or propane line.

Verify with: The Technical Standards and Safety Authority regulates fuel safety in Ontario.

Questions worth asking

  • Is the person doing the work certified in 306A, or an apprentice being supervised? Both are fine. You just want to know.
  • Is this quote flat rate or time and materials? If hourly, what is the estimated range and what happens if it runs over?
  • Does the job touch a gas line, and if so who holds the TSSA certificate?
  • Does this need a municipal plumbing permit, and are you pulling it?
  • What is the warranty on labour, separately from the manufacturer warranty on parts?
