We haven't used Bremner for a few years (since covid) however we couldn't have asked for better service. Over the years with Bremner when/if we did have a problem it was attended to immediately. One Saturday about 10:30 p.m. I noticed something and left a message (we were new to having a pool). Imran called me back and set my mind at ease. Highly highly recommend.

I am a very happy customer. Eric from Bremner just finished installing my new liner. The entire process (start to finish) was way better than I could have hoped it would be. I have dealt with many contractors, but I have to honestly say that Bremner is head and shoulders above anyone I have ever worked with. I decided to request an estimate from Bremner because of the stellar reviews I was reading. I received a very quick response and then a visit from Ryan whose professionalism and thorough responses to all of my questions, instilled confidence that I should go with Bremner. Even though two of my other estimates were slightly lower, I had an uncomfortable feeling that I would be in for unexpected extra charges with those lower estimates. A fourth estimate was approximately double the estimate that I received from Bremner and that other company uses subcontractors! Bremner uses their own staff and everyone that I dealt with - from Ryan, as estimator/organizer to Eric as the expert quarterback/installer with his great team of assistants, were outstanding. They were all a real credit to the Bremner name and reputation. More specifically: Ryan Ryan was exceptional at keeping me in the loop regarding timing and very quickly answering all of my questions. He was professional, patient, and kind to me at all times and gave me plenty of confidence in the honesty and integrity of the Bremner company and system. Eric When the old liner was being removed, and I pointed out a few concerns I had to Eric (ie. some roots and cracks), Eric said: “don’t worry, I treat every pool like it was my own”. Man, was he right!! I was so impressed with the quality and effort that he put into the repairs and the entire project. He mentioned that he has been doing this for 13 years, and I can see that he takes a ton of pride in doing a great job every time. Thank you very much Bremner Team. My new liner looks amazing. It was money very well spent. I highly recommend Bremner to anyone considering a new or revitalized pool project. Like “picky” me, you will not regret your decision.

Bremner is hands down the best pool company in Durham!! After trying many local pool companies and being disappointed with the quality of service, we contacted Bremner through a referral. WHAT A HUGE DIFFERENCE- let's just say that you get what you pay for. Fast forward 3 years later, we are still using them to open and close our pool. They are very clean and efficient and the price is fair- professionalism, reliability and expertise is what we look for especially when dealing with an investment such as a pool. Thanks guys for keeping our pool in tip top shape and we look forward to seeing you soon!

Bremner Pools did a complete renovation on my ~35 year old pool. They took on the work where other pool stores turned me down. All the concrete surround was ripped up and replaced by tinted stamped concrete. New pipes were put in, new skimmer, the pool patched where the previously leaking skimmer had rusted the sides underneath the liner. New liner installed and winter cover. All work was scheduled at the completion of the summer to allow us to use it without interruption. They installed some additional pipe for me at my request for future uses. Bremner employees were very courteous and hard working. There was good communication throughout the entire renovation. Now one year later, they are being proactive to finish off some remaining details. We are thrilled with the look of our backyard and what it is becoming. I would highly recommend Bremner pools to anyone.

The Bremner team did a complete renovation on our pool late last year. They provided a quick accurate quote and managed to schedule the work into their busy fall schedule. We were so pleased they were able to complete all the work before winter. We have a steep hill down to the pool in our backyard and they took steps to protect landscaping and gardens. They implemented all of the additional features we requested including new steps into the pool, a pool light and a new safety cover. They completed the work in a very professional manner. They started when they said they would and worked hard to complete it last fall. This spring we had the joy of opening a beautiful new pool. We are very pleased and would highly recommend them.

Before you hire a pool builder in Ontario

Pool building itself is not a licensed trade, but the electrical work is, and the enclosure permit is mandatory.

Municipal pool enclosure permit

Required in essentially every Ontario municipality, usually before excavation begins. Bylaws specify fence height, gate self-closing and self-latching hardware, and how soon the enclosure must be in place. Enforcement is real and the liability if a child accesses an unfenced pool is severe.

Verify with: Your municipality's building or bylaw department.

ESA notification for pool electrical and bonding

Pool electrical must be installed by a licensed electrical contractor, and the metal structure must be bonded. This requires an ESA notification and inspection.

Verify with: The Electrical Safety Authority, esasafe.com.

Utility locates before excavation

Legally required. Gas and hydro service lines cross yards at unpredictable depths.

Verify with: Ontario One Call.

General liability insurance and WSIB clearance

Excavation near a house foundation carries real risk. Confirm coverage amounts.

Questions worth asking

  • What is the total installed cost including electrical, gas, decking, fencing and landscape restoration?
  • Who pulls the enclosure permit, and when must the fence be up relative to excavation?
  • Which licensed electrical contractor are you using, and will I receive the ESA Certificate of Acceptance?
  • What is the realistic installation window, and what happens if it slips past the season?
  • How is my deposit protected, and what is refundable if you cannot start?
