We used Kronos for a basement renovation and were extremely satisfied with the service. We appreciate the 10 year warranty and the ongoing communication. We have recommended Kronos to our neighbors and will absolutely use them again.

Not satisfied with the service at all. The electrician arrived late and the issue was not properly fixed the first time. I had to follow up multiple times and it felt very unprofessional. I expected much better from Kronos Electrical Contractors Ltd.

Personal Charm

I hired Stan and Kronos to complete a panel upgrade. While the electrical work was completed successfully and is functioning well, the overall experience was very disappointing. I want to specifically highlight that the assistant was an absolute star—professional, helpful, and provided exemplary customer service. Unfortunately, the lead electrician was the complete opposite. When he sent his estimate, I accepted it immediately without haggling or low-balling, so I expected a professional level of service in return. What I received was unreasonable. During the initial visit, he walked across freshly mopped floors in boots. On the service day, both my partner and I had to explicitly ask him (once each) to remove his shoes that was tracking melted snow and dirt. I am currently having other work done as I type this, and the difference is night and day; the current electrician is working in socks without being asked and is incredibly careful. This is a stark contrast to the previous experience of constant 'banging and clanging' from tools and parts being dropped and thrown. After Kronos left, I discovered a gouge in a newly (3days old) painted wall and damage to a baseboard that were never brought to my attention. Additionally, I wasn’t informed until the end of the job that e-transfer was the only accepted payment method. It is a shame because the assistant was great, but the lead’s disregard for property and lack of transparency means I would not hire them again. I paid full price for a professional experience I did not receive. There's more...Turns out the breaker panel is mislabeled. You've been warned.

I can’t say enough good things about the team at Kronos Electrical. From start to finish everything was seamless and perfect. The owner Stan was extremely communicative and responded in a timely manner and addressed any questions or concerns that I had. They scheduled the installation of my chandelier for the next day which was incredible! The 2 gentlemen that showed up were nothing short of amazing. They were friendly, arrived exactly at the time they said they would and not a minute later! They were efficient and professional. Dennis completely stood out to me for his professionalism, speed and expertise. He is truly a superstar! If you need any electrical work done, do yourself a favour and call these guys up! They’re awesome! I will definitely be using them again in the future and recommending them to everyone I know.

Before you hire an electrician in Ontario

Yes, twice over. The person needs a 309A Certificate of Qualification; the business needs an ECRA/ESA Electrical Contractor Licence.

ECRA/ESA Electrical Contractor Licence

A seven-digit number that must appear on advertising, vehicles, quotes and invoices. If you cannot find it on the quote, ask - a licensed contractor is required to provide it.

Verify with: The Electrical Safety Authority publishes a contractor lookup at esasafe.com.

Check Kronos Electrical Contractors Ltd. on the official register

Certificate of Qualification, 309A Electrician

Held by the individual. A licensed contractor employs certified electricians and apprentices; the apprentices work under supervision.

Verify with: Skilled Trades Ontario maintains the public register.

ESA notification (the permit) for the specific job

Most work beyond replacing a light fixture requires the contractor to file a notification with ESA and have the work inspected. You should receive a Certificate of Acceptance when it passes. Keep it. You will want it when you sell.

Verify with: ESA confirms whether a notification was filed for your address.

General liability insurance and WSIB clearance

Two million in liability is standard. Electrical fires are the reason this is not a box-ticking exercise.

Questions worth asking

  • What is your ECRA/ESA licence number? (Then look it up before you sign anything.)
  • Will you file the ESA notification, and is the fee included in this price?
  • Will I receive the Certificate of Acceptance when the work passes inspection?
  • Is my panel at capacity? If this job needs a service upgrade, I want to know now rather than halfway through.
  • Who is physically doing the work - a certified electrician or an apprentice under supervision?
