A huge thank you to Three Seasons Landscaping for transforming our entire property into a stunning place! Chris and his professional team completed a complex project that touched every aspect of our yard, exceeding our expectations in every way. From permits to grading, decking, irrigation, pool renovation, custom cut stonework, retaining wall, terracing, and new sod installation, they handled every single detail with precision and transparency. Their constant communication and attention to quality left us impressed and delighted with the final result: lush gardens, safe and beautifully renovated, usable outdoor dream space. I highly recommend this team.

What a team! Chris, Graydon, Austin and everyone else have been fantastic. Construction is only 3 days in, still a ways to go, but I’m a very pleased with the work being performed. Very helpful with design, experts with the equipment, and very professional workers. Update after 2 years. I emailed Chris asking him about a couple pavers that had moved. He replied immediately and had a team on it within 2 weeks. We could not be happier with the all the work Chris and his team provided. These guys are the experts you want working on your project.

Three Seasons did such an incredible job recreating our front entrance and driveway! We are so pleased with the high quality service and overall product. The professionalism of this team is one of a kind. The team is responsive and they exemplified pleasant manners, cleanliness, strong work ethic and high quality design and skills. We are so appreciative for how Three Seasons made our vision come to life, and our project truly turned out better then we envisioned! We highly recommend them to our friends and family and look forward to doing our backyard with them soon! Thank you so much Three Seasons, a year later and we still admire the work you have done, and know we will for many years to come! - Bianca and Matt

Chris and his team at Three Seasons Landscapes are fantastic! They recently finished our backyard retreat and it turned out spectacular. We absolutely love it and so does eveyone that comes and visits! The fit and finish, attention to detail, pride in workmanship and customer service is excellent! We highly recommend Chris and will continue to work with him in the future.

Hey Chris, just wanted to say that you and your crew did a fantastic job. You, your crew lead Jeremy, as well as the others, were very approachable, personable, cooperative, as well as great representatives for your company. They were willing to listen and work with suggestions given by both myself and my wife, and that is all we could ever ask for from a contractor. I was also impressed with the array of equipment your company moves around, very professional and efficient. Our place looks completely different now and the curb appeal just jumped massively! Thanks for taking our vision and drawing and turning into a reality. We'll happily suggest Three Seasons Landscapes to our friends and family that need work done on their place.

Before you hire a landscaper in Ontario

No general licence, but specific activities are regulated: tree work near hydro lines, pesticide application, and retaining walls above a certain height.

General liability insurance and WSIB clearance

Particularly important for tree work and any job using excavators or skid steers near a structure.

ISA Certified Arborist, for tree work

A recognised certification indicating training in tree health and safe removal. Worth insisting on for any mature tree near a building.

Verify with: The International Society of Arboriculture maintains a public certification directory.

Ontario pesticide applicator licence

Required for anyone applying pesticides commercially. Ontario also restricts cosmetic pesticide use, so be sceptical of anyone offering broad chemical lawn treatment.

Permit and engineering for retaining walls

Most Ontario municipalities require a permit for retaining walls above roughly one metre, and engineered drawings above that. A failed retaining wall is expensive and can involve your neighbour.

Verify with: Your municipal building department.

Questions worth asking

  • Is there a design fee, and is it credited against the build if I go ahead?
  • How deep is the base under any hardscaping, and what material is it?
  • How will this change where water goes? Where does it drain to now, and after?
  • Is there a plant warranty, how long does it run, and what voids it?
  • Is disposal of excavated material and old sod included?
