Gary and his team did an awesome job. There was alot of wall repairs and areas to paint. It took 2 days. Started and finished on time. Always left things at the end of the day neat and tidy.

Started good with Gary coming to do the quote. Seemed very nice and knowledgeable. When "he" started giving us dates, "we" said no, we want to wait until first of October. This week we had a meeting set to go over the project and give a deposit. We'll Gary was a no show, no communication until we messaged him. Reschedule for thw next evening, again, he's a no show. Had an excuse that made no sense with the timing of it. And again, no communication until we did it. Emailed today and said we were a little uncomfortable with the 50%deposit and with his no shows, not sure about the timeliness to complete as discussed. We have to board our dog and needed a commitment which he was unwilling to give. Offered 30% deposit and he abruptly cancelled on us. Maybe his painting skills are good, but his business/communication skills need a lot of work. Now the search continues for a reputable painter. Thanks for the time Gary, oh wait, you didn't give us any...🙄🙄

It was so nice to hear a friendly, helpful voice when I phoned Top Pro Painters. Gary was eager to assist, even though it wasn't a very big job (painting and caulking the columns of my outside front entrance). He accommodated my request in a timely manner, sending Malcolm, who did a meticulous and impressive job. I've received numerous compliments since. The pricing was very reasonable. I know who to call next time I need painting done, no matter how big or small the job. I highly recommend Top Pro Painters.

We have worked with Gary and his team multiple times over eight years, and every time it has been a completely positive experience. A great painting job, but just as importantly, done by a team who were professional, friendly and very considerate of our home. We will definitely continue to work with them in the future.

I hired this company to paint my whole house. It was an amazing experience dealing with them. They were very clean, very professional and finished on the time they said they would. I’m very happy that I hired them and would only use them from now on and recommend them to all my friends. One of the main things for me is customer service and it doesn’t get much better than Gary. He worked with me the whole way and made sure I got exactly what I wanted done. Great experience! great company! Thank you again.

Before you hire a painter in Ontario

No provincial licence required. Insurance and a clear written scope carry the weight here.

General liability insurance

Covers overspray on a neighbour's car, damage to flooring, and ladder incidents. Ask for the certificate.

WSIB clearance

Especially relevant for exterior work at height. Many small painting operations are owner-operators who may be exempt - ask them to confirm their status in writing either way.

Lead-safe work practices for pre-1980 homes

Sanding old paint can disturb lead. A painter working on an older home should be able to describe how they contain dust.

Questions worth asking

  • What preparation is included - filling, sanding, caulking, priming?
  • How many coats, and is primer counted as one of them?
  • What paint product and finish line are you using? (Brand alone does not say much; the product line does.)
  • Does the quote include ceilings, trim, doors and closet interiors, or walls only?
  • How are floors, furniture and fixtures protected?
