Mike completed a custom walnut media wall and built-in shelving project for me, and the result was outstanding. From concept to completion, his work was precise, thoughtful, and beautifully executed. There’s a real artistry to what he does. His hands truly work magic with wood. Every detail felt intentional and expertly crafted. The piece completely transformed the space, striking the perfect balance between function and architectural presence. Every line is clean, every joint is tight, and the natural beauty of the walnut was brought out perfectly. Mike was thoughtful, detail-oriented, and a pleasure to work with from start to finish. Highly recommend him to anyone looking for custom woodwork that stands out for all the right reasons.

Solid people, called for a question about a personal project and even though it was my first call to them, Michael kept it really cool and professional answering my concerns and providing information. Would definitely recommend them and hoping to do projects with this union in the future! Also questions are 400$ each so ask wisely😄(jk)

After having our garage floor done by Crystal Clear Epoxy Inc., we realized we needed a custom wooden storage unit hanging from the ceiling and a cabinet system for our metalworking shop. Nelson from Crystal Clear Epoxy Inc. recommended Toronto Carpenters, and we are thrilled with their work. The carpenters were highly skilled, professional, and attentive to our specific needs. The hanging storage unit and cabinet system are both sturdy and beautifully crafted, perfectly complementing our newly finished epoxy floor. We couldn't be happier with the results and highly recommend Toronto Carpenters for any custom carpentry needs.

I had carpentry services done by this crew and they did a fantastic job. I got my cabinets refinished and new glass doors installed all around the house. I highly recommend and everything was done in time within my budget and the communication was spot on!

The team was incredibly professional, and did the job according to plan. They made beautiful cabinetry and drawers for my kitchen, and remodeled it beautifully. 5/5 I would use them for my services again.

Before you hire a carpenter in Ontario

General carpentry is a voluntary trade in Ontario, not a compulsory one. A Certificate of Qualification exists and is a genuine signal, but it is not legally required.

Certificate of Qualification, 403A General Carpenter

Voluntary rather than compulsory, which makes it a useful differentiator. It indicates completed apprenticeship and a passed exam.

Verify with: Skilled Trades Ontario maintains the public register.

Check Toronto Carpenters on the official register

General liability insurance and WSIB clearance

Standard checks, particularly for structural and deck work.

Building permit for structural work and most decks

Ontario municipalities generally require a permit for decks above a certain height, any structural alteration, and load-bearing changes. Guard and railing heights are code-specified.

Verify with: Your municipal building department.

Engineered drawings for load-bearing removal

Removing a load-bearing wall requires a beam specification from a qualified professional. This is not a place to accept a verbal opinion.

Questions worth asking

  • Do you mainly do rough or finish carpentry? Can I see photos of work like mine?
  • Is this quoted hourly or as a fixed price, and what is the estimate if hourly?
  • Does this job need a permit, and are you pulling it?
  • Who supplies materials, and is there a markup on them?
  • For a deck: what footing depth, and how is it attached to the house?
