Alpine was great to work with for a second time. We had them do the flat part of our roof and we were on a tight timeline because we have a baby due in less than a month. They we able to get the job done right before we got hit with a big snow storm. They even stayed late as the snow started to fall. Thanks for getting it done and doing it right Alpine.

My adjoining neighbour and I decided to have our roofs replaced. Rico my neighbour recommended Alpine, as he had used them on another property with excellent results, we asked for separate quotations, we were both happy with the price and set the contract for the following week. The crews arrived on time with all materials and set to work. It took 1 day, the jobsite was maintained in a safe condition throughout and all work was performed in a professional manner. Site cleanup was on completion was thorough and complete, Good price, great work, Quality materials, I would be happy to recommend Alpine Roofing to anyone needing their services, Thanks for a troblefree installation.

Awesome company to deal with. Had some paneling ripped off in the crazy wind. Called Alpine in the morning. Even though they were booked solid, they still managed to squeeze me in as it was a dangling situation. Nikos was especially understanding and extremely helpful. Alpine did our entire roof 2 years ago and did a masterful job and now they went above and beyond to help us today. Highly recommend Alpine for all your roofing needs. Well done, folks.

Mimi and his team at Alpine Roofing did an outstanding job of fixing and strengthening all aspects of the roof that the original builder should have done, making it all right and built to last 40+ years. He went above and beyond to ensure we were aware of all the work and happy with the results. I noticed his team took extreme care to ensure safety, protection and daily cleanup around the house, and his team was very flexible to show me progress and photos as the job went along. I was confident I got a high quality job done that will protect our home for many years to come. I notice whenever I see an Alpine roofing truck around the neighborhood and it never surprises me that other neighbours see the good value in their jobs.

My neighbor engaged Alpine Roofing to do some work on their house. The workers waltzed into our shared alleyway without giving any notice (potentially dropping shingles on my kids' head or freeing our aging dog to wander the streets), and subsequently managed to dent our window siding, rip our bicycle cover and leave behind a bunch of garbage including nails where my kids play. If you're looking to scuttle your relationship with neighbors, I highly recommend engaging these clowns. Addendum: Nothing better than spending your weekend cleaning up somebody else's nails, tar, grit and shingles. Except for when you happen to glance up and see a jumbled mess of roofing garbage affixed to the side of your house (photo attached). This will be fine the next time there are high winds or an ice storm, right? And the service drop for your electrical wires is the perfect place to support a tangled heap of trash. If this is the carelessness with which this company manages its surroundings, I am woe to imagine what transpires on the roofs above.

Before you hire a roofer in Ontario

No. Roofing is not a compulsory trade in Ontario, so there is no licence to verify - which makes insurance and WSIB coverage the checks that matter.

WSIB clearance certificate

The most important document in this trade. Ask for a current certificate and confirm it names the company doing your work, not a subcontractor you have never met. It should be dated within the last 90 days.

Verify with: WSIB clearance certificates can be validated online by the account number.

General liability insurance

Two million dollars minimum for residential roofing. Request the certificate of insurance directly from the broker rather than a photocopy, and confirm the policy is current.

Manufacturer shingle certification

Optional but meaningful. Manufacturers certify installers, and certification is what unlocks the extended system warranty. Without it you have a material warranty only, which covers far less than most homeowners assume.

Municipal business licence

Some Ontario municipalities require one. Not universal, but easy to ask about.

Questions worth asking

  • Can I see a current WSIB clearance certificate and your liability certificate of insurance?
  • Is this a full tear-off, or shingling over the existing layer? (Overlays are cheaper and shorten roof life.)
  • How much ice and water shield is included, and how far up from the eave?
  • Are you certified by the shingle manufacturer, and does this quote include the system warranty or only the material warranty?
  • What happens if you find rotten decking? What is the per-sheet price, and will you show me before replacing it?
