Our house had an old style glass fuse box that just wasn't keeping up with our usage. They replaced the panel, put in new outlets, and installed a level 2 plug. Argent were super professional, very friendly, answered all our questions, and very quick! We went from "phone call" to "done" in record time. Absolutely recommend. I like that they bring the experience and know-how of "big" professional jobs (commercial and industrial) to residential service, so you always feel like you're in good hands. (And at a competitive rate!) Shout out to Steve and Derek, thanks so much!

Excellent electricians. We have used them for multipe jobs. Communication with management has been easy and hassle free, the electricians are skilled, knowledgeable, friendly, and punctual. Special mention to Derek and Dave, who did a phenomenal job moving and upgrading our electrical box. Projects from Argent are completed on time, and provide accurate quotes.

Argent came out and gave me a quote that was inline with the other electricians I had come out for my EV charger install. They didn't try to upsell me on any work, and did an excellent job setting things up. If you're in St. Thomas or sorrounding area, I highly recommend them!

I received a few quotes before deciding to go with Argent Electrical for my electric car installation. I choose Argent because Cory, the Master Electrician came out to give me a quote, and he seemed very knowledgeable about electric car chargers, and the quote was reasonable. There was no upselling, like other companies I had out. I wasn't disappointed a couple of months later when the electricians arrived to do the work. They were polite, efficient, and professional. The quality of job they did was excellent. No issues whatsoever. I'm very happy with Argent Electrical, and since more and more people are moving to EVs, they're definitely worth bringing out for a quote.

Before you hire an electrician in Ontario

Yes, twice over. The person needs a 309A Certificate of Qualification; the business needs an ECRA/ESA Electrical Contractor Licence.

ECRA/ESA Electrical Contractor Licence

A seven-digit number that must appear on advertising, vehicles, quotes and invoices. If you cannot find it on the quote, ask - a licensed contractor is required to provide it.

Certificate of Qualification, 309A Electrician

Held by the individual. A licensed contractor employs certified electricians and apprentices; the apprentices work under supervision.

ESA notification (the permit) for the specific job

Most work beyond replacing a light fixture requires the contractor to file a notification with ESA and have the work inspected. You should receive a Certificate of Acceptance when it passes. Keep it. You will want it when you sell.

General liability insurance and WSIB clearance

Two million in liability is standard. Electrical fires are the reason this is not a box-ticking exercise.

Questions worth asking

What is your ECRA/ESA licence number? (Then look it up before you sign anything.)
Will you file the ESA notification, and is the fee included in this price?
Will I receive the Certificate of Acceptance when the work passes inspection?
Is my panel at capacity? If this job needs a service upgrade, I want to know now rather than halfway through.
Who is physically doing the work - a certified electrician or an apprentice under supervision?
