Sat and watched the most meticulous landscapers tidy up a property and not to mention the absolute ART made by one young man with his mower....I mean ... very nice.

We booked to have additional garden beds and a mowing strip around all beds installed this year. The service, quality, and professional/knowledgeable staff could not have been better. An A++++ experience from start to finish. Highly recommend Mike and his team for any project large or small. They deliver on time, on budget and a great product at the end.

We recently had the Beamish folks in to do grading (included removal of not wanted dirt/clay), bring in and spread top soil, and bring in and place sod, The required sod covered approx 700 sq feet and included the grading to facilitate water run off (placement of tile as well) and top soil was approx 6 to 7 yards worth which was spread and non sod areas seeded. Total work area of approx 60 ft by 40 ft. The timeline and budget was honoured/bang on, and the folks on the crews were always on task, polite, and were able to communicate all activities. Many thanks are owed to Mike and the folks on the crews. Steve and Lisa

Beamish Landscaping did a wonderful job from helping us plan our flower garden layout to the finished product. Not sure what to plant, they stepped up to go through everything with us and the garden looks lovely. Excellent service, amazing employees and very satisfied home owners!

Beamish Landscape Services were extremely professional from the time we called them to ask about their services to the final product less than a year later. Hunter, Bill, and the rest of their team were a pleasure to work with and made our vision come to life. We put in a walkway, two sitting areas, a fire table complete with landscaping and we couldn't be happier with the final result. We'd recommend the Beamish team to anyone looking for a professional landscaping!
Before you hire a landscaper in Ontario
No general licence, but specific activities are regulated: tree work near hydro lines, pesticide application, and retaining walls above a certain height.
General liability insurance and WSIB clearance
Particularly important for tree work and any job using excavators or skid steers near a structure.
ISA Certified Arborist, for tree work
A recognised certification indicating training in tree health and safe removal. Worth insisting on for any mature tree near a building.
Verify with: The International Society of Arboriculture maintains a public certification directory.
Check Beamish Landscape Services Inc. on the official registerOntario pesticide applicator licence
Required for anyone applying pesticides commercially. Ontario also restricts cosmetic pesticide use, so be sceptical of anyone offering broad chemical lawn treatment.
Permit and engineering for retaining walls
Most Ontario municipalities require a permit for retaining walls above roughly one metre, and engineered drawings above that. A failed retaining wall is expensive and can involve your neighbour.
Verify with: Your municipal building department.
Questions worth asking
- Is there a design fee, and is it credited against the build if I go ahead?
- How deep is the base under any hardscaping, and what material is it?
- How will this change where water goes? Where does it drain to now, and after?
- Is there a plant warranty, how long does it run, and what voids it?
- Is disposal of excavated material and old sod included?
