We recently purchased all new trim and baseboard for our house and are very happy we chose De La Fontaine. The prices were excellent and the delivery & customer service was amazing! Big shout out to Sherry & Ron for all their help in making the renovations as smooth as possible!

We are renovating, and needed baseboard to match existing trim. The company that made it has discontinued it. After over 50 calls to businesses all over eastern Ontario hoping for old stock with no results, we discovered De La Fontaine. They didn't have any in stock, but said they would try and help our search. They found some! Probably the last available ever! GREAT customer service! Thank you De La Fontaine!!!

Don't order from de La Fontaine Doors and Trim. It took 9 months to get my finished doors. Multiple excuses for the delays and no promises kept, even a 5 pm call to guarantee delivery the next day and they were still 2 days. Inferior hardware, workmanship, and customer service. Buy from somebody else!!!

My rating should be a negative number. If you're thinking of ordering from this company - DON'T!! A frustrating and unprofessional experience! First, couldn't read a plan to properly prepare the order. Once the order arrived in our driveway, we were informed some items were on backorder. After numerous calls 6 weeks later, confirmed the "backorder" items were never ordered. Then more calls to confirm the items have arrived at their shop. Now can't seem to get them delivered. Three months after payment, still don't have the complete order. Never seen such incompetence!! Surprised they're still in business!!

I purchased all new doors with frames through De La fontaine. The prices were exceptional and the products arrived quickly. The staff were willing to come out and complete measurements of their own to make sure I was receiving the most accurate sized doors. Very accommodating and friendly. Adding these new doors to my house made a huge difference in appearance. I highly recommend purchasing through this company as they have lots of options and reasonable prices.
Before you hire a window and door installer in Ontario
No provincial licence is required. Installation quality is governed by manufacturer specification and the Ontario Building Code rather than by a trade certificate.
General liability insurance and WSIB clearance
Standard checks. Window installation involves ladder work and heavy glass.
Manufacturer-trained installer status
Matters more than usual here, because most window warranties are voided by installation that departs from the manufacturer specification.
Building permit for new or enlarged openings
Replacing a window in an existing opening generally does not need one. Cutting a new opening, or enlarging one for a basement egress window, generally does.
Verify with: Your municipal building department confirms what your specific job requires.
ENERGY STAR certification for the product
Relevant if you intend to claim any efficiency rebate, which typically requires certified products and documentation.
Questions worth asking
- Is this a retrofit or a full-frame installation? What would the other one cost?
- How is the gap between the window and the rough opening insulated and air-sealed?
- Is exterior capping included, and in what colour and material?
- Is the warranty on the glass seal, the frame, and the labour - and are they different lengths?
- Is the warranty transferable if I sell the house?
