I was very impressed with the professional service I received from The Window Centre in Kingston. The installers were pleasant and worked very hard to get all my windows put in. They pointed out the mold on the old windows and explained how it got there. They answered my questions as best they could. When they accidentally ruined some of my siding they immediately ordered a replacement. I would definitely recommend them. V klein, Kingston

Greg and the team at The Window Centre (TWC) were excellent. They were responsive and patient with us when we had to adjust our specifications to meet Heritage standards; which they helped us achieve. We installed Marvin aluminum clad wood windows with heritage style glazing. They look terrific and perform well. The installation team are familiar with custom limestone conditions, and are excellent craftsmen. One of our windows arrived with damaged glazing (in shipping, no fault of TWC) but the window was able to be installed. Greg and TWC immediately ordered a warranty replacement sash that arrived just a few weeks later, and was installed the same day.

We recently purchased a bungalow in a very sorry state and one of the many things that needed to be replaced were the basement windows. My son now sleeps in the basement and in one area we needed to enlarge a current window to make it safe in the event of a fire. Of all the people we connected with, Sean was the one that really listened to our needs and brought with him to the house a sample of the egress window he would recommend and took the time to explain why this one over that one. The Window Centre also worked seamlessly with Wilcore, who had to cut out the concrete. Communication was prompt and the timing was when they said it would be. The installers were professional and ensured the cats did not make a break for it! When we need to replace the other windows in the home I would not hesitate to reach out to them again. Thank you! The novel is in the photo for size reference and while you can't see it all that well, the window opens both like a door, but also tilting at the top, leaving a few inches of air.

So happy with my new front door purchased through The Window Centre in Kingston. It was a custom made French door to fit a wide opening in our old stone house. I approached and was turned down by several companies before I found The Window Centre and was so happy that they took on this project. Although there was a small imperfection when the door was shipped from the factory, the staff was very accommodating and worked with the company to make sure that one of the panels was replaced to my satisfaction. Kudos to Keegan and Curtis who made three visits to the house to install and re-install the door. They were professional, very pleasant and friendly and very reassuring when the door had to be switched out. The door is a showstopper and I would highly recommend The Window Centre to anyone looking for quality custom made doors/windows.

We recently replaced our door with the Window Center. After obtaining five other quotes, The Window Center had the best price for a better product. We had a great buying experience as we were able to visit the showroom to see products from the manufacturer in person and were also able to see 'half doors' which showed their inner construction. This was a big purchase for us and we had a lot of questions. Sean and Greg did a great job at answering all our questions and made sure we were comfortable with the process before finalizing. The installers were very professional and knowledgeable. During install, one of the techs noticed the door was mildly warped from the manufacturer and had it promptly replaced. This demonstrated their commitment to quality and customer satisfaction. Furthermore, I am grateful they brought this to my attention because it was so minor, I'm not sure I would have noticed. Overall I had a fantastic experience with The Window Center and would recommend them for your next project.

Before you hire a window and door installer in Ontario

No provincial licence is required. Installation quality is governed by manufacturer specification and the Ontario Building Code rather than by a trade certificate.

General liability insurance and WSIB clearance

Standard checks. Window installation involves ladder work and heavy glass.

Manufacturer-trained installer status

Matters more than usual here, because most window warranties are voided by installation that departs from the manufacturer specification.

Building permit for new or enlarged openings

Replacing a window in an existing opening generally does not need one. Cutting a new opening, or enlarging one for a basement egress window, generally does.

Verify with: Your municipal building department confirms what your specific job requires.

ENERGY STAR certification for the product

Relevant if you intend to claim any efficiency rebate, which typically requires certified products and documentation.

Questions worth asking

  • Is this a retrofit or a full-frame installation? What would the other one cost?
  • How is the gap between the window and the rough opening insulated and air-sealed?
  • Is exterior capping included, and in what colour and material?
  • Is the warranty on the glass seal, the frame, and the labour - and are they different lengths?
  • Is the warranty transferable if I sell the house?
