They repaired my car a few years back so there wasn’t”t even a second thought when I needed repairs again. These guys are great

We recently had a glass shower door installed and are very happy—not only with the end result, but with the customer service and ongoing communication we received throughout the process (Terri was very helpful!) Fort glass were prompt, professional, and did an amazing job installing our shower door. We have future projects in mind, and I know we will be returning to Fort Glass for their services. I would not hesitate to recommend them to friends and family.

Great customer service and work. We had a large window in our living room break unexpectedly. Terri was quick to provide a quote for the repair and had the guys scheduled to come the next day and get the glass replaced. The two guys who came to replace the window were friendly and worked very efficiently to get the repair completed quickly on a snowy and windy day.

The service was exemplary. Our order was attended to immediately, was ready for pickup so quickly, and was even given help in wrapping the mirror for transport. Well done! I will be calling upon you in the future to do more work for us. Thank you for such great customer service.

We contacted Fort Glass because the shower installation in our bathroom reno had run into a big problem and needed a custom re-design. The folks at Fort Glass were attentive and professional in carefully working with us to find a solution. They sent a fellow called Keegan out to the house who seemed too young to know all that he knew. Because this was a custom design with some particular weird things to work around, there were many things to consider and Keegan was really good at thinking through the options, listening to input and helping to settle on the best. He made careful measurements and later ensured that he was the one to lead the installation, which I really appreciated. The day that happened, Keegan and his partner (I can't remember his name) were friendly and professional and left behind perfectly-installed, beautiful shower glass and a completely tidy work scene. This wasn't cheap, but in the end it was a much higher quality result and we're confident it will be beautiful for years.

Before you hire a window and door installer in Ontario

No provincial licence is required. Installation quality is governed by manufacturer specification and the Ontario Building Code rather than by a trade certificate.

General liability insurance and WSIB clearance

Standard checks. Window installation involves ladder work and heavy glass.

Manufacturer-trained installer status

Matters more than usual here, because most window warranties are voided by installation that departs from the manufacturer specification.

Building permit for new or enlarged openings

Replacing a window in an existing opening generally does not need one. Cutting a new opening, or enlarging one for a basement egress window, generally does.

Verify with: Your municipal building department confirms what your specific job requires.

ENERGY STAR certification for the product

Relevant if you intend to claim any efficiency rebate, which typically requires certified products and documentation.

Questions worth asking

  • Is this a retrofit or a full-frame installation? What would the other one cost?
  • How is the gap between the window and the rough opening insulated and air-sealed?
  • Is exterior capping included, and in what colour and material?
  • Is the warranty on the glass seal, the frame, and the labour - and are they different lengths?
  • Is the warranty transferable if I sell the house?
