Highly recommended: Jacob and his team replaced a flat roof on my front porch and re-shingled the garage roof. The flat roof required carpentry, decking and railing solutions. What I really appreciated: Jacob took care of the project end to end (I didn't have to search other experts), great price:quality, neat, respectful, showed up when they said they would (weather dependent). Great to work with. Thanks Jacob!

Thank you Mkenzie Roofing for the great job you did on our roof! Jacob and his crew were efficient and very friendly. They were done in the time frame we had been told. They cleaned up each day before they left. The roof looks awesome and would recommend his services.

We had Jacob come over to advise us on what to do with a roof leak. He was very knowledgeable and found the problem right away. 10/10 would recommend McKenzie roofing. Had shingles blow off back in the summer that caused a serious leak. They responded quickly for an emergency tarp, and then completed the full repair recently. Jacob evidently knows what he’s doing and worked efficiently and in a timely manner. He’s also very friendly and personable. Cleaned up the entire surrounding area as well!

I can't say enough good things about Mkenzie Roofing, I am so glad i decided to use you after considering other companies in the area. You provide the best quality and choice in materials and your work is excellent. I was lucky enough to be bumped up on your schedule due to changes. Jacob and Josh showed up early in the morning and you wouldn't even know that they were there. They cleaned up as they went along and if wasn't for the fact that a beautiful new roof was appearing before my eyes you would not of known that they were tearing down an old one. The work was phenomenal and their cost was very reasonable. I would definitely recommend them to anyone looking to replace their roof. They were a wonderful pair of guys, easy to talk to, skilled, professional and hardworking. It was a pleasure doing business with you. Maggie

Before you hire a roofer in Ontario

No. Roofing is not a compulsory trade in Ontario, so there is no licence to verify - which makes insurance and WSIB coverage the checks that matter.

WSIB clearance certificate

The most important document in this trade. Ask for a current certificate and confirm it names the company doing your work, not a subcontractor you have never met. It should be dated within the last 90 days.

Verify with: WSIB clearance certificates can be validated online by the account number.

Check Mkenzie Roofing on the official register

General liability insurance

Two million dollars minimum for residential roofing. Request the certificate of insurance directly from the broker rather than a photocopy, and confirm the policy is current.

Manufacturer shingle certification

Optional but meaningful. Manufacturers certify installers, and certification is what unlocks the extended system warranty. Without it you have a material warranty only, which covers far less than most homeowners assume.

Municipal business licence

Some Ontario municipalities require one. Not universal, but easy to ask about.

Questions worth asking

Can I see a current WSIB clearance certificate and your liability certificate of insurance?
Is this a full tear-off, or shingling over the existing layer? (Overlays are cheaper and shorten roof life.)
How much ice and water shield is included, and how far up from the eave?
Are you certified by the shingle manufacturer, and does this quote include the system warranty or only the material warranty?
What happens if you find rotten decking? What is the per-sheet price, and will you show me before replacing it?
