I had an insurance claim to replace my roof. They sent Jessie from Murray Shaw. After the quote was done my insurance informed me I could pick them or they had others they use as well. I said I will go with Murray Shaw as they have been in business a long time and have a good name I know. They did not disappoint! Jessie and his crew were professional, efficient and really care about their quality of work.Jessie came back the next day to ensure all was to our satisfaction and ensured that we were happy. Thanks Shaw roofing.

We had a new roof done by Murray Shaw and were very impressed with the professionalism, workmanship, expertise and cleanliness of both the crew and Eric who met with us originally to discuss options and needs. They even followed up on the last day to ensure we were pleased with how everything went! The roof looks incredible and the work was done efficiently. We are very happy and would highly recommend!

Truly excellent service from the first estimate to the install of the roof. Great price and great communication throughout the process- they made it quick and easy for a full roof replacement. Did our entire roof install in a day and left the area around the house and driveway cleaner than when they got here! We’re so happy with the whole experience and would recommend Murray Shaw Roofing highly to anyone. Thanks again!

We were extremely pleased with the professional job completed on our new roof by Murray Shaw. I was impressed when Eric first arrived at our house and he indicated that he already had all our roof measurements taken by satellite! We had one other quote with similar pricing but decided to go with Murray Shaw . Eric had remembered replacing our original roof about 25 years previously. The job was completed by a great crew of 4 men lead by Adam. A portion of our roof was flat after an addition we had completed about 15 years ago and Murray Shaw was able to expertly install a new flat roof. Adam and his crew took their time carefully installing our new roof and always kept our property tidy at the end of each workday . Since our new roof has fiberglass component we gladly anticipate it will be the last new roof . We would highly recommend Murray Shaw Roofing.

Before you hire a roofer in Ontario

No. Roofing is not a compulsory trade in Ontario, so there is no licence to verify - which makes insurance and WSIB coverage the checks that matter.

WSIB clearance certificate

The most important document in this trade. Ask for a current certificate and confirm it names the company doing your work, not a subcontractor you have never met. It should be dated within the last 90 days.

Verify with: WSIB clearance certificates can be validated online by the account number.

Check Murray Shaw Roofing on the official register

General liability insurance

Two million dollars minimum for residential roofing. Request the certificate of insurance directly from the broker rather than a photocopy, and confirm the policy is current.

Manufacturer shingle certification

Optional but meaningful. Manufacturers certify installers, and certification is what unlocks the extended system warranty. Without it you have a material warranty only, which covers far less than most homeowners assume.

Municipal business licence

Some Ontario municipalities require one. Not universal, but easy to ask about.

Questions worth asking

Can I see a current WSIB clearance certificate and your liability certificate of insurance?
Is this a full tear-off, or shingling over the existing layer? (Overlays are cheaper and shorten roof life.)
How much ice and water shield is included, and how far up from the eave?
Are you certified by the shingle manufacturer, and does this quote include the system warranty or only the material warranty?
What happens if you find rotten decking? What is the per-sheet price, and will you show me before replacing it?
