> Pools for Home was recommended to us in 2013 and we could not have been happier! Marc and his crew created an oasis in our backyard that we enjoyed for 7+ years. When we bought our next house we missed our previous backyard so much we called Marc back in 2022 to help us again! We got in late in the season and were ready to swim again in late spring 2023! > Not only did Marc come up with a great way to use our space better, he gave us back a Pools for Home oasis! We love our backyard renovation! The addition of a pergola and fireplace, patio and BBQ area have given us everything we want to enjoy in our yard! Marc, Darrell and the whole crew battled the weather throughout our whole project! Thank you Pools for Home Design, you did it again!!! We highly recommend Marc and his team for design and for ongoing service!

Great service.

Marc and his team did a wonderful job building the pool of our dreams in our backyard. He has also done his best to explain pool chemistry to me. With mixed results. But that’s on me. I wish we’d built a pool years earlier, but I am very very happy with the work that Marc did for us

Marc and his team were amazing! We shopped around and had 5 quotes. Marc was the one who sat with us and listened to our vision for a backyard oasis. And then his design was better than we could have envisioned. Construction started in 1st wave of covid. Crew was polite and kind and respectful. Very clean worksite and responded kindly to our young kids who were keen to watch the progress. Marc was excellent about communicating with us and making adjustments mid-way as we encountered slight modifications. We are so thankful for the continued service from this company and we highly recommend them!

From early design planning in 2015 to construction in 2016, and thereafter ongoing support, maintenance and overall customer service, Marc and his team have been fantastic. In today's business environment, it was reassuring to see Marc knee deep in concrete when the pool was being built, to his continued on-site service and overall great communication. He certainly knows the personal touch and I truly feel valued as a long-term customer.

Before you hire a pool builder in Ontario

Pool building itself is not a licensed trade, but the electrical work is, and the enclosure permit is mandatory.

Municipal pool enclosure permit

Required in essentially every Ontario municipality, usually before excavation begins. Bylaws specify fence height, gate self-closing and self-latching hardware, and how soon the enclosure must be in place. Enforcement is real and the liability if a child accesses an unfenced pool is severe.

Verify with: Your municipality's building or bylaw department.

ESA notification for pool electrical and bonding

Pool electrical must be installed by a licensed electrical contractor, and the metal structure must be bonded. This requires an ESA notification and inspection.

Verify with: The Electrical Safety Authority, esasafe.com.

Utility locates before excavation

Legally required. Gas and hydro service lines cross yards at unpredictable depths.

Verify with: Ontario One Call.

General liability insurance and WSIB clearance

Excavation near a house foundation carries real risk. Confirm coverage amounts.

Questions worth asking

  • What is the total installed cost including electrical, gas, decking, fencing and landscape restoration?
  • Who pulls the enclosure permit, and when must the fence be up relative to excavation?
  • Which licensed electrical contractor are you using, and will I receive the ESA Certificate of Acceptance?
  • What is the realistic installation window, and what happens if it slips past the season?
  • How is my deposit protected, and what is refundable if you cannot start?
