I had Rob out to my house to quote on changing my wiring from Aluminum to Copper Also wanted a quote on a Generac system in case of power outage. ( I got his name from an ad he put in "Finest" a book of advertising that gets delivered to each household.) After a couple of follow-up emails a few weeks later, I got the quote by email. I immediately sent him a reply accepting the quote and to set a date to do the wiring but we never ever heard back. It's been more than 3 months with no reply. Why would someone drive 30 mins to come and look at the job, send a quote and never follow up. Very poor business practices if you ask me. I definitely would NEVER recommend this company to anyone. I wouldn't have even given him a one star rating but that was the lowest. Stay clear from RJ Electric. The job would probably never get done and only frustrate you. 👎👎👎👎

Rob stopped by to evaluate and promised to provide me with a quote to have some work done. After multiple follow ups and reminder calls, texts and emails over the past few weeks to get the quote I am yet to receive one!

Rob & his team did an outstanding job wiring my new kitchen. It was a big task and they were always up to the challenge when I would come up with new lighting ideas or wanted something done a particular way. Always courteous and respectful, on time and left my house as clean as it was when they arrived. 10/10 would recommend to anyone looking for quality workmanship at a fair price. I will be hiring them for any future electrical work.

The dynamic duo that wired my shed were quick and the workmanship excellent. The connection to the house required a little ingenuity but it took no time for them to figure it out. Very happy with the outcome in all aspects.

I have been using Rob and his team for years. He has been more than fair on his pricing and his team is knowledgeable and helpful. My most recent project required a complete gut job and his guys showed me what was necessary to ensure the safety of my home and family. Thank you Rob. You have instilled a sense of pride and responsibility in your team above all else.
Before you hire an electrician in Ontario
Yes, twice over. The person needs a 309A Certificate of Qualification; the business needs an ECRA/ESA Electrical Contractor Licence.
ECRA/ESA Electrical Contractor Licence
A seven-digit number that must appear on advertising, vehicles, quotes and invoices. If you cannot find it on the quote, ask - a licensed contractor is required to provide it.
Verify with: The Electrical Safety Authority publishes a contractor lookup at esasafe.com.
Check R J Kennedy Electric Ltd on the official registerCertificate of Qualification, 309A Electrician
Held by the individual. A licensed contractor employs certified electricians and apprentices; the apprentices work under supervision.
Verify with: Skilled Trades Ontario maintains the public register.
Check R J Kennedy Electric Ltd on the official registerESA notification (the permit) for the specific job
Most work beyond replacing a light fixture requires the contractor to file a notification with ESA and have the work inspected. You should receive a Certificate of Acceptance when it passes. Keep it. You will want it when you sell.
Verify with: ESA confirms whether a notification was filed for your address.
Check R J Kennedy Electric Ltd on the official registerGeneral liability insurance and WSIB clearance
Two million in liability is standard. Electrical fires are the reason this is not a box-ticking exercise.
Questions worth asking
- What is your ECRA/ESA licence number? (Then look it up before you sign anything.)
- Will you file the ESA notification, and is the fee included in this price?
- Will I receive the Certificate of Acceptance when the work passes inspection?
- Is my panel at capacity? If this job needs a service upgrade, I want to know now rather than halfway through.
- Who is physically doing the work - a certified electrician or an apprentice under supervision?
