Hi! We have used Waite Bros. Electrical on several occasions. We have had them remove & replace an antique front door bell. Then when all our smoke alarms expired & needed replacing, they were on our call list. They updated & replaced them. Today, we had 1 porch light with a broken socket lodged inside & an additional porch light to be checked. We called & within 15 minutes Craig arrived & fixed the issue. He fit us into his schedule. Every time we have used Waite Bros Electrical they have been prompt, personable & very knowledgeable. You can't go wrong with this company. We never hesitate to call them with electrical concerns.

I had a heavy metal spool for an electrical cord that was on a ceiling fall and hit me solidly in the head. A safety pin was not installed by Waite Brothers Electric. They have not responded to my communications. It’s one thing to do a poor installation, but not responding when it was brought to their attention is unacceptable.

We used Waite Bros. for the installation of our EV car charger, panel upgrade to 200 Amps and hot tub wiring/installation. They provided excellent service and prices. Coleman continually kept us up to date on the progress of the work, while remaining flexible to our needs. The finished product was high quality, neat and tidy! Thanks for everything. We will definitely use Waite Bros. for any future electrical needs!

Lost power to an outdoor plug on my deck. Coleman called me same day and walked me through some diagnostics. Problem fixed and power restored. I asked him how much I owed him. No charge for a simple call. Thank you Coleman. Will call you again when I need some real work done.

Lost half my power on Nov. 29th . I called Waite Brothers at around 8pm. Called me back with in the hour . The electrician offered to come to my house at 930pm. I let him know we were fine for the night. It got a little cold during the night but we were prepared. He was here at 8am Sharpe. It was a problem from outside our house. He stayed here until the city came out to fix it. Kept us updated and was wonderful. I highly recommend Waite Brother's electric!! Excellent Top NOTCH service. Thank you🙂

Before you hire an electrician in Ontario

Yes, twice over. The person needs a 309A Certificate of Qualification; the business needs an ECRA/ESA Electrical Contractor Licence.

ECRA/ESA Electrical Contractor Licence

A seven-digit number that must appear on advertising, vehicles, quotes and invoices. If you cannot find it on the quote, ask - a licensed contractor is required to provide it.

Verify with: The Electrical Safety Authority publishes a contractor lookup at esasafe.com.

Certificate of Qualification, 309A Electrician

Held by the individual. A licensed contractor employs certified electricians and apprentices; the apprentices work under supervision.

Verify with: Skilled Trades Ontario maintains the public register.

ESA notification (the permit) for the specific job

Most work beyond replacing a light fixture requires the contractor to file a notification with ESA and have the work inspected. You should receive a Certificate of Acceptance when it passes. Keep it. You will want it when you sell.

Verify with: ESA confirms whether a notification was filed for your address.

General liability insurance and WSIB clearance

Two million in liability is standard. Electrical fires are the reason this is not a box-ticking exercise.

Questions worth asking

  • What is your ECRA/ESA licence number? (Then look it up before you sign anything.)
  • Will you file the ESA notification, and is the fee included in this price?
  • Will I receive the Certificate of Acceptance when the work passes inspection?
  • Is my panel at capacity? If this job needs a service upgrade, I want to know now rather than halfway through.
  • Who is physically doing the work - a certified electrician or an apprentice under supervision?
