We bought a complete set of Del casement windows for our new house 5 years ago. The company was good to replace 2 of the windows that had crooked grills. However, every fall we have hundreds of house flies, hornets and lady bugs that come in past the exterior seal on all the windows. We contacted the company and were told that all Del windows are made like that (open corners on the exterior seals). We'd never had this problem with other windows on our previous house. The company was good to send someone to add more seals to the windows. We will know if the additional seal works when the flies try to make their way inside in the fall. Stay tuned...

Decent Windows, but if you need anything to show up on time don’t bother. I am still waiting on windows that were promised for June 3, and I have no explanation. I was told they may be a week late, and when they were over a week late, they will not give a further explanation. I would recommend going with one of the other many window companies that can actually stay true to their word. I definitely will not be buying any more DEL windows moving forward
Before you hire a window and door installer in Ontario
No provincial licence is required. Installation quality is governed by manufacturer specification and the Ontario Building Code rather than by a trade certificate.
General liability insurance and WSIB clearance
Standard checks. Window installation involves ladder work and heavy glass.
Manufacturer-trained installer status
Matters more than usual here, because most window warranties are voided by installation that departs from the manufacturer specification.
Building permit for new or enlarged openings
Replacing a window in an existing opening generally does not need one. Cutting a new opening, or enlarging one for a basement egress window, generally does.
Verify with: Your municipal building department confirms what your specific job requires.
ENERGY STAR certification for the product
Relevant if you intend to claim any efficiency rebate, which typically requires certified products and documentation.
Questions worth asking
- Is this a retrofit or a full-frame installation? What would the other one cost?
- How is the gap between the window and the rough opening insulated and air-sealed?
- Is exterior capping included, and in what colour and material?
- Is the warranty on the glass seal, the frame, and the labour - and are they different lengths?
- Is the warranty transferable if I sell the house?
