We are having a phenomenal experience with Ferra Flooring. I honestly could not recommend these folks more - such skilled craftsmen and genuinely great people who obviously care very deeply about their work. We hired them to update the main level floors in our century home, replacing old tile with engineered hardwood. Along the way, they even helped restore some of the original charm to the old hardwood floors upstairs. They were so knowledgeable, helpful, and skilled! And such genuinely pleasant folks to work with. Each member of their team (Aaron, Chris, Lexi, Dave), has gone way above and beyond to give us a great experience, and beautiful floors. You can really tell that this is a family-run business with deep roots in the community. I think they are even the oldest flooring store in Guelph! We are so appreciative of all their hard work and expertise.

From the moment I walked in the door it was the easiest process. Aaron came out and measured that day, and I had the most luxurious carpet installed in just 3 weeks (with Christmas in there) Just amazing customer service and the quality and price are in line or better than others. Customer service is top here.

I recently had a need for a small piece of carpet and popped in to Ferra Flooring to ask for help. The gentleman (I don’t remember his name!) was so helpful and kind, found a piece that suited my needs, carried it out to my car - all with a smile :-) I appreciate local businesses like this that offer great product and very friendly service. I’ll be back to buy from Ferra in the future 👍

This is the second time I have purchased Ferra Flooring Carpet in the past 2 years. Once for LVT Click Flooring and now for carpet and I love them both. Aaron and his team went above and beyond to help me select the right product and the installation went very smoothly. I have referred friends and neighbours and highly recommend them.

Super happy with the service and installation of my new luxury vinyl plank flooring. Took about 3 weeks from start (my first visit to their store) to the installation. Sales rep and team were very helpful as we had to creatively problem solve for my old house's tricky stairs, but he came up with a great solution. Installers were extremely polite, fast, and again helpful, as we worked to figure out the transition to the stairs. Pricing was competitive with others (if not better), and these guys made sure to help get the best results! This was my 3rd time using Ferra Flooring (carpet and vinyl elsewhere), and I will likely use them again!

Before you hire a flooring installer in Ontario

No provincial licence required. Manufacturer installation requirements are the real standard, because they govern your warranty.

General liability insurance and WSIB clearance

Standard checks.

Manufacturer installation compliance

Most flooring warranties specify subfloor flatness, moisture content and acclimation. Departing from them voids coverage, and the manufacturer will ask for evidence if you claim.

Moisture testing for concrete subfloors

Basements and slab-on-grade need a moisture test before wood or glue-down vinyl goes on. Skipping it is the most common cause of catastrophic basement floor failure.

Asbestos assessment for pre-1990 flooring

Old vinyl tile and its adhesive can contain asbestos. It must not be sanded or dry-scraped without assessment.

Questions worth asking

  • Is subfloor preparation included, and what happens if the floor turns out to be uneven?
  • Is removal and disposal of the existing flooring in this price?
  • How long will the material acclimate on site before installation?
  • For basements or concrete: will you moisture-test the slab first?
  • Are transitions, baseboard, quarter round and stair nosing included?
