Elgin Tirecraft

Friendly service, very knowledgeable people. I buy all my supplies here as well as my Spa.

Great place for a small store. Very helpful and knowledgeable staff. The staff always go out of their way to help you including asking someone from the service department to come and help you with any questions you may have that front end staff can't answer. They will go out of their way to help you. I recently had an issue trying to find a new filter for my hot tub. And they worked with me until we found a suitable replacement. They also offer free water testing as long as you buy your chemicals from them. I used to test my hot tub daily and always have to add chemicals according to what the test strips said. Now I just take a water sample to them once a week and I have cut my chemical use by more than half. Ever since I bought my tub used from another dealer i have been having problems with cloudy water and high foam. The original dealer that sold it to me said that wasn't covered under the 6 month warranty that he gave me. Instead of insisting that that I have a technician come out right away to do trouble shooting and keep coming back until all potential DIY Solutions were eliminated before having to finally resort to having a technician come out instead of soaking me for multiple service calls. I will give the original dealer credit for coming out and fixing a leak at no charge under warranty though. This company offers orders fashioned customer service and care that is hard to find anymore. Whether you're looking for chemicals or anything else you need they will always go over and above to help you.

Liquid chlorine is great, but there replacement pool hoses are trash. They dont fit snug had to use marine epoxy to seal them. They tend to spring holes in the hoses after a couple months

Great advice concerning our very large aging pool. Friendly, helpful staff willing to answer all your questions and supply all you need. Our 60'x30' pool would be a mess without their knowledge in knowing what to do & when to do it. We pass all our inspections and our water is beautiful! Thanks for all your help.

Horrible experience with R & S Pools. Came out to inspect our hot tub. No indication whatsoever what the service call would be? No indication of what the hourly rate is? They sent us a Bill in the mail and charged Us for parts they put in. Very poor communication with the customer. When brought to their attention, the reply was “ this is the way it’s been done for 30 years”!! I would NOT RECOMMEND this company to anyone.. Go with Warehouse Guys. Be aware of Pool companies that fail to share the costs!! Very disappointed in the charges that were never brought to our attention. Customers needs to know what service charges are up front. The part they put in was not even necessary. That is why it was returned . I called and questioned my bill of course and was told directly, “ I was lucky it wasn’t a few minutes longer otherwise it would have cost me a half hour more!!” Very unprofessional!! I would not recommend this company to anyone!

Before you hire a pool builder in Ontario

Pool building itself is not a licensed trade, but the electrical work is, and the enclosure permit is mandatory.

Municipal pool enclosure permit

Required in essentially every Ontario municipality, usually before excavation begins. Bylaws specify fence height, gate self-closing and self-latching hardware, and how soon the enclosure must be in place. Enforcement is real and the liability if a child accesses an unfenced pool is severe.

Verify with: Your municipality's building or bylaw department.

ESA notification for pool electrical and bonding

Pool electrical must be installed by a licensed electrical contractor, and the metal structure must be bonded. This requires an ESA notification and inspection.

Verify with: The Electrical Safety Authority, esasafe.com.

Utility locates before excavation

Legally required. Gas and hydro service lines cross yards at unpredictable depths.

Verify with: Ontario One Call.

General liability insurance and WSIB clearance

Excavation near a house foundation carries real risk. Confirm coverage amounts.

Questions worth asking

  • What is the total installed cost including electrical, gas, decking, fencing and landscape restoration?
  • Who pulls the enclosure permit, and when must the fence be up relative to excavation?
  • Which licensed electrical contractor are you using, and will I receive the ESA Certificate of Acceptance?
  • What is the realistic installation window, and what happens if it slips past the season?
  • How is my deposit protected, and what is refundable if you cannot start?
