Had a new furnace installed this week by Tozer Heating & Air.  Each member of the team (Melisa, Adam, Jeff, Alex, Kenny & Brad) was professional, knowledgeable in their area of expertise and a pleasure to deal with.  Alex, Kenny & Brad installed the new furnace and were wonderful at keeping me informed, answering my questions and ensuring that this was a positive experience for me.  Highly recommended!

The installation of our new furnace10 days ago was a very positive experience. The knowledge of the two technicians, Kenny and Tristen, was excellent. They both worked diligently, answering my questions, and provided me with information on our new furnace. They were very meticulous in their work habits, leaving zero mess and utilizing mats to not dirty our floors. Great job Tozer!

Alex and Kenny of Tozer Heating were wonderful. Very polite, explaining all the furnace features and answering all of my questions thoroughly. As well they did a very tidy job , left the work site very clean, & ensured we understood everything.

Hallelujah, we have heat again! Thanks to the team at Tozer H & A. Herb quickly responded and gave us an affordable quote and explained how the process was going to transpire. Melissa handled the booking and payment and estimate tweaks without issue. Brad and Alex, the installers, were friendly, efficient, and knowledgeable. They respected our house and cleaned up after themselves. The new furnace is much quieter and smaller than it's 28 year old predecessor but it pumps out the heat. A great experience all round.

Tozer is excellent to work with from the beginning through to the end. It started with Bill as a sales rep, he came to my house, sent me a reasonable quote, when I followed up MONTHS later after making some decisions etc., the quote remained the same. When they had to change my system to a combo-boiler from a different approach, which was deemed more appropriate, it also stayed the same. There was ample, timely communication from everyone I worked with. The install was done across two days, these guys (Brad, Alex, Justin & Kyle) were quick, neat and tidy in their install, and cleaned everything up when they were done. I cannot recommend them enough, this was a very good experience. They installed a propane furnace, heat pump, and combo-boiler for domestic hot water and radiant in-floor.

Before you hire an HVAC contractor in Ontario

Yes for the parts that matter. Gas work requires TSSA certification, and refrigerant work requires a 313A or 313D certificate plus environmental handling certification.

TSSA Gas Technician certificate (G1, G2 or G3)

Legally required for anyone connecting, servicing or venting gas-fired equipment. G2 covers most residential work; G3 is an entry level that must work under supervision.

Verify with: The Technical Standards and Safety Authority regulates fuel safety in Ontario.

Certificate of Qualification, 313A or 313D

313A is the full Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Systems Mechanic; 313D is the residential air conditioning equivalent. Both are compulsory trades.

Verify with: Skilled Trades Ontario maintains the public register.

ODP / refrigerant handling certification

Required to legally purchase and handle refrigerant. Relevant to any AC or heat pump work.

Manufacturer certification for the equipment being installed

Not a legal requirement, but many manufacturer warranties are only valid when installed by a certified dealer. Ask before assuming you have a ten-year warranty.

Questions worth asking

  • Will you perform a heat loss and heat gain calculation, and can I see it?
  • Who on the crew holds the TSSA gas certificate, and at what level?
  • Is the equipment warranty conditional on registration or on installer certification?
  • What exactly is covered by your labour warranty, and for how long?
  • Does this quote include removal and disposal of the old equipment?
