I couldn’t be happier with the service I received from BETTER WINDOW AND DOOR! From start to finish, the team was professional, punctual, and extremely courteous. The installation of our new front door was flawless, and the result is absolutely beautiful – it has truly transformed the look of our home.

I have nothing but praise for this honest man and his great work. The day I called him he immediately answered and was ready to come to give me a quote same day without an appointment. He agreed to work with a window I purchased and came to install two days later (very fast operating time)! The window I purchased separately for my opening was too tall and rather than making me purchase a brand new window when he made it work. The framing and installation took less than two hours and it looks amazing! I cannot stress how impressed I am with the amazing service and pricing was very fair! Any future windows or projects that I need I know that Allan will be the guy I contact.

We recently had the pleasure of having Alan and AJ install our new windows (15 of them). Our house is quite old. The main portion was a log cabin from 1803. Alan and his wife came to our house multiple times, to ensure all measurements and planning was done. To say that some of the installation was a challenge would be an under statement. Throughout it all, Alan and AJ not only persevered, they excelled. They completed the installation, with quality, ensuring all was done properly. We also had Alan procure clear pine, stain it, and finally seal it. They did a great job on this, and with the stained pine, the windows really pop. We've had many positive comments from friends and family about the job. Outside of the technical portion of the project, Alan and AJ were fantastic to deal with personally. Nice people in general, respectful of our home, and just pleasant to have around. In the future, we would not hesitate to hire them again, or to recommend them to others.

I had the pleasure of getting my windows replaced by Allan of Better Window and Door, needless to say i am speechless in regards to the job done. Very thorough in explanation and providing a breakdown of the invoice and the full job details. I would not hesitate to hire him and his team again for another job. I highly recommend them for your windows/doors and I would not bother getting a quote from anyone else. I apologize I did not get more pictures to upload to show the work, but take it from me, 100% worth every penny!

Dobos Family

Allan and his son replaced a few windows for us and I can't recommend them highly enough. This family-run business truly embodies professionalism, with a wealth of experience that is evident in every aspect of their work. From the very beginning, Allan provided honest and transparent information about the windows including fair pricing, making sure there were no surprises along the way. The quality of their windows and craftsmanship is outstanding. Every window was installed with precision and care. What impressed me the most was how respectful they were of our home. They took great care to minimize any mess, and after the job was done, they left everything clean. If you're looking for a trustworthy, skilled team to handle your window and door needs, I recommend Allan and his sons.

Before you hire a window and door installer in Ontario

No provincial licence is required. Installation quality is governed by manufacturer specification and the Ontario Building Code rather than by a trade certificate.

General liability insurance and WSIB clearance

Standard checks. Window installation involves ladder work and heavy glass.

Manufacturer-trained installer status

Matters more than usual here, because most window warranties are voided by installation that departs from the manufacturer specification.

Building permit for new or enlarged openings

Replacing a window in an existing opening generally does not need one. Cutting a new opening, or enlarging one for a basement egress window, generally does.

Verify with: Your municipal building department confirms what your specific job requires.

ENERGY STAR certification for the product

Relevant if you intend to claim any efficiency rebate, which typically requires certified products and documentation.

Questions worth asking

  • Is this a retrofit or a full-frame installation? What would the other one cost?
  • How is the gap between the window and the rough opening insulated and air-sealed?
  • Is exterior capping included, and in what colour and material?
  • Is the warranty on the glass seal, the frame, and the labour - and are they different lengths?
  • Is the warranty transferable if I sell the house?
