Long story short: this was one of the worst home renovation experiences we’ve ever had. We had our windows and patio door replaced by Duravu, and from start to finish it was a nightmare. During our ongoing issues, the company changed ownership, and we were told the new owner, Gord, was now responsible. Unfortunately, this transition became a recurring excuse for missed commitments and unresolved problems rather than a path to resolution. We were explicitly told that because the staff member who installed our windows no longer works for the company, they do not feel responsible for fixing the issues, despite the work being completed under the Duravu name. This stance is completely unacceptable and shows a lack of accountability for their own product and workmanship. Promises to repair or replace defective work were repeatedly made and never followed through. Communication was unprofessional, timelines were ignored, and responsibility was constantly deflected. There was no effort to stand behind their work or ensure customer satisfaction. Between the ownership changes, the refusal to correct past workmanship, and the overall lack of professionalism, this company feels disorganized and unreliable. I’m sharing this review to warn others—if you value your time, money, and peace of mind, I strongly recommend looking elsewhere.

This review is a long time coming. In April of 2021 we had contracted DuraVu to replace 2 windows in our home. We were told it would take a month or so to have them made or ordered, and the install would happen shortly afterwards. Anyway, late November of the same year (that's 7 months later) they show up to do the job. As we were having our bathroom renovated by a contractor at that time, he noticed that the windows were the wrong size, that they had been 'stuffed into a too-small opening' and were almost impossible to open (he was right). He also said that the windows were entry-level low-budget (not what we had ordered). He was right about that as well. Gord was called the day of installation, and he and his crew showed up to look. Our contractor was present, pointed out all the errors, and the installer said he had to 'work with what he had', Gord acknowledged it was a poorly done job and would re-order the correct windows. November turned to December, to January, to on-and-on, and we never heard from Gord ever again. We had not paid for the job, and to this day, still haven't. Now, in June/July of 2023 (this is almost 2 years later) I get a call from a young lady from DuraVu saying 'our parts were in, when can we come install?'. I told the young lady that they were no longer needed, she said ok, and hung up. Here's the thing. At some point during 2022, I think the seal to these windows had let go (there were 2 windows) and they had developed fog and spots in between the panes. We've had the windows replaced and installed by a professional company. DuraVu and Gord are complete scammers. We wouldn't hire them to *clean* a window, let alone install one. Zero customer service skills, zero follow up, zero care. Our only saving grace is that our interaction with them cost us nothing. The company that replaced DuraVu's windows also said the installation was amateurish and the windows were of poor quality. Hire DuraVu at your own risk. Better yet, pass on the whole experience and go with someone reputable.

My 600 lb bay window installed with precision for a perfect fit thanks to the expert installation by Issac and Nick. Their work ethics were exemplary with great personalities to match. Very efficient and did a great job with all the windows and they cleaned the work site with attention to detail. They were very professional and considerate. A big shout out to them for a job well done and also to Chad for his patience and expertise in helping me decide on my windows. I thoroughly enjoyed dealing with him.

We decided to replace our vintage glass slider windows with beautiful Vinyl Windows from DuraVu, we are absolutely ecstatic with the results. From the sales representative Chad, to their receptionist Holly and installers Scott and Mike the professionalism and expertise was exceptional. Scott especially takes an enormous amount of pride in his work, on time, worked quickly and left our house as he found it ... maybe even a little cleaner. We could not be more pleased and would highly recommend them to others. I should mention their quote was substantially lower than the next of 3 quotes.
Before you hire a window and door installer in Ontario
No provincial licence is required. Installation quality is governed by manufacturer specification and the Ontario Building Code rather than by a trade certificate.
General liability insurance and WSIB clearance
Standard checks. Window installation involves ladder work and heavy glass.
Manufacturer-trained installer status
Matters more than usual here, because most window warranties are voided by installation that departs from the manufacturer specification.
Building permit for new or enlarged openings
Replacing a window in an existing opening generally does not need one. Cutting a new opening, or enlarging one for a basement egress window, generally does.
Verify with: Your municipal building department confirms what your specific job requires.
ENERGY STAR certification for the product
Relevant if you intend to claim any efficiency rebate, which typically requires certified products and documentation.
Questions worth asking
- Is this a retrofit or a full-frame installation? What would the other one cost?
- How is the gap between the window and the rough opening insulated and air-sealed?
- Is exterior capping included, and in what colour and material?
- Is the warranty on the glass seal, the frame, and the labour - and are they different lengths?
- Is the warranty transferable if I sell the house?
