The service crew who attended on Friday March the 6th to correct our hot water tank issue were exceptional. Father and son team were great with explaining everything and correcting the issue. Top shelf service.

Noticed my water tank leaking at 1:00 PM, Saturday, 7 March 2026. Got stressed out and imagined the worst. Called Reliance and within a couple minute I was speaking to Josh. Given service Number 8484511. Within 15 minutes I was called by the tech, Parminder # 115370 Who advised he would be at my house in Belleville, in 5 minutes or so. Parminder was a perfect gentleman and a great technician. He examined the leak and advised the tank would have to be replaced. I was expecting sometime during the next work week. I was astonished when he said he would do it right now. By 3:05 PM, the old tank had been removed and a new Rheem tank was installed and up and running. Never have I seen such awesome service from a company. I have been a Reliance customer for 35 years and have always had great service but this service from Parminder was above and beyond and totally exceptional. Thanks Parminder and Reliance. Robert M

5 star experience. From first call to reliance and the new water tank being installed and operational was roughly 3-4 hours. Amazing. Installer was very respectful and polite. His name is Parminder (#115370). You should give him a raise.

Great to deal with. Starting with Mike who came to my house to help me with the products that Reliance has explained everything so that I could understand and even after the installation he messaged to make sure everything was ok. And the crew that installed my new furnace were awesome and respected my house like it was their own. Explained how the furnace works. In a week I an having a water filtration system installed. Amazing people to deal with. Thank you Mike and crew

Before you hire a plumber in Ontario

Yes. Plumber (306A) is a compulsory trade in Ontario - working without certification is illegal, not just inadvisable.

Certificate of Qualification, 306A Plumber

The individual doing the work must hold this, or be a registered apprentice working under someone who does. Ask for the certificate number and the name it is issued to. It belongs to a person, not a company.

Verify with: Skilled Trades Ontario maintains the public register of certified tradespeople.

General liability insurance

Two million dollars is the common floor for residential work. Water damage escalates fast, and a burst supply line during a renovation can exceed a small policy in an afternoon.

WSIB clearance

If a worker is injured on your property and the contractor has no coverage, you can be drawn into the claim. A clearance certificate is free for the contractor to pull and takes minutes.

Verify with: WSIB issues clearance certificates directly to the contractor on request.

TSSA gas technician certificate (only if gas is involved)

G1, G2 or G3 depending on scope. Required for anything connecting to a natural gas or propane line.

Verify with: The Technical Standards and Safety Authority regulates fuel safety in Ontario.

Questions worth asking

  • Is the person doing the work certified in 306A, or an apprentice being supervised? Both are fine. You just want to know.
  • Is this quote flat rate or time and materials? If hourly, what is the estimated range and what happens if it runs over?
  • Does the job touch a gas line, and if so who holds the TSSA certificate?
  • Does this need a municipal plumbing permit, and are you pulling it?
  • What is the warranty on labour, separately from the manufacturer warranty on parts?
