Dan was great once again! I messaged him near 5pm Monday evening and he responded quickly suggesting he be there Tuesday 9am, and so he was. He checked out the few things we had on our list, specifically our current water tank issue. After a bit of discussion we came to a conclusion we thought made the most sense about the issue and Dan was pretty much on his way. Maybe half hr later I get a call back from Dan, having another suggestion to our issue one that the water tank technician didn't mention or consider. Sure enough I had those technicians back and Dan was right ! Broken dip tube in our water tank causing less cold water to be heated properly. (He doesn't know this part yet that he right) So thank you very much for an efficient job and response, also a big thanks for checking back in with a 2nd thought 馃憤

We were very happy to have called Dan at Tap Tech. Our neighbours had recommended him after their own great experience. I called in the evening, and he was able to come the next morning to sort out a clogged drain problem that has plagued us off and on for a few years in a rental property. Other plumbers had run a snake through it on 3 or 4 occasions over the last few years. Dan explained that that was a temporary fix as the pipes were likely coated with grease and just snaking it would poke a hole in the grease but not fix the problem long-term. For a bit more he could clean out the pipes properly with a "hydro jet" which he guaranteed for 18 months and said we would likely not have any problems for years to come. Great to fix it rather than temporarily stop the symptoms. He and his son Bean arrived right when they said they would. They were super friendly and explained exactly what they were doing. They protected the cabinets and floors with tarps. The cleaned everything thoroughly when they were done. He helped with another minor problem at no additional charge. Tap Tech will be our go-to plumbers from now on.

Dan has explained to me the reverse osmosis system and tested the city water at the sink. An estimate was sent to me and I have accepted the cost. He came two days later and installed the system along with his assistant Dean. Job was done and cleaned up after. Dan is easy to talk to and does a good job.

Amazing service. Contacted them on WhatsApp at about 930PM Friday night, got a reply in less than a minute. Told them my situation and since it wasn't a true emergency, they scheduled an appointment for the next morning at 7AM. I got a text and email confirmation and in the morning when the tech was on his way I got another text. Super friendly service. Very knowledgeable. Great with my large breed dog. Very fast and efficient. Well priced for a weekend morning call. 10/10 recommend and I'm having them come back for some routine maintenance so I don't have another issue elsewhere in the future.

Dan and Bean were great. They came at 7pm on a Saturday night for water backing up in our basement from a clogged main drain line. They cleared it, installed a new toilet and fixed everything we asked. They were professional, explained everything, answered all questions and are super friendly guys. Will call with all plumbing problems from now on and highly recommend to everyone. Thank you Dan and Bean we are more than pleased.

Before you hire a plumber in Ontario

Yes. Plumber (306A) is a compulsory trade in Ontario - working without certification is illegal, not just inadvisable.

Certificate of Qualification, 306A Plumber

The individual doing the work must hold this, or be a registered apprentice working under someone who does. Ask for the certificate number and the name it is issued to. It belongs to a person, not a company.

Verify with: Skilled Trades Ontario maintains the public register of certified tradespeople.

General liability insurance

Two million dollars is the common floor for residential work. Water damage escalates fast, and a burst supply line during a renovation can exceed a small policy in an afternoon.

WSIB clearance

If a worker is injured on your property and the contractor has no coverage, you can be drawn into the claim. A clearance certificate is free for the contractor to pull and takes minutes.

Verify with: WSIB issues clearance certificates directly to the contractor on request.

TSSA gas technician certificate (only if gas is involved)

G1, G2 or G3 depending on scope. Required for anything connecting to a natural gas or propane line.

Verify with: The Technical Standards and Safety Authority regulates fuel safety in Ontario.

Questions worth asking

  • Is the person doing the work certified in 306A, or an apprentice being supervised? Both are fine. You just want to know.
  • Is this quote flat rate or time and materials? If hourly, what is the estimated range and what happens if it runs over?
  • Does the job touch a gas line, and if so who holds the TSSA certificate?
  • Does this need a municipal plumbing permit, and are you pulling it?
  • What is the warranty on labour, separately from the manufacturer warranty on parts?
