Universal Mechanical

This is going to be a different review. I had the opportunity to sort of meet Adam through driving in the Kingston area. I'm from out of town and work for the provincial government. Navigating the area and fighting heavy traffic there was only one person that showed courtesy out of hundreds of vehicles to allow traffic to make turns out of a very congested area. He wasn't holding up traffic behind him but slowed just enough and indicated for stuck traffic to go. This was an awesome sign of a general courtesy that others had not. I called, spoke with his father, who frankly was pretty awesome to speak with as well. Informed him of the situation. Thank you Adam for being a stand out and making at least a handful of peoples day just that little better. If you can do a simple gesture without hesitation at the end of the day than I'm guessing that pride, courtesy and respect for others translates to your work and business mentality. I will be recommending you to our service provider for consideration for our local government offices.

I've used this company's services for years now. They are always professional and timely. I've mainly used them for plumbing, although I've also called them for other issues such as clogged vents and broken furnace. They are fast and their work is fantastic. They've also referred me to very good people when I need help with an issue that they don't deal with, so I just call them whenever something breaks.

I had the old faucet on my water main replaced. The plumber came 2 days before to check what had to be done.... I had explained what had to be done over the phone.... He spent 5 minutes in the house and said it was an easy task. In came back for the appointment, installed the valve and left 52 minutes after. The soldering did not look like a professional job (see attached photos) The good thing that there was not any leak. Then I got the bill by e-mail. I could not believe it: The charge was 2 1/2 hours of work and the parts for close to $400 00. I called the company and was told that the plumber was in my house for 2h30. When I complained that it was only 52 minutes I was told the charge will then be only for 1 1/2 hour. I asked were the extra 1/2 hour came from I was told that was for the pre- appointment visit. I replied that the pre-appointment visit was not necessary as I had told everything in details when I booked the appointment. Then I was told that there was a minimum charge for any appointment with the company. The icing on the cake was a charge of $25 for truck... So I was not impressed at all by this and would not recommend Universal Mechanical to anybody.

I had a leaky pipe and needed it repaired quickly. I called multiple plumbing companies and was told that they couldn’t fit me in today. In all fairness, it was 1 in the afternoon, so I understood. Universal was the only place that offered to send a plumber out to apply a temporary patch until they could do the full job next morning. Zack and Riley showed up on time and finished the job promptly. Great company to work with and as we begin to attack our 40 year old house, this will definitely be a company I lean on.

Great service and prices. They were able to send out a plumber, Dylan, on short notice and he did a great job. I had two jobs for them. I had previously called another plumber that charges by the job. They showed up and off the top of their head quoted me two high prices. Classic holdup problem. Don’t go with companies that charge by the job. Universal did both jobs for less than one of the jobs the other company had quoted me. Highly recommend.
