The men who came to fix my issue which was extensive and in very cold weather were amazing. They worked on the issue till they knew everything was working completely Would recommend anytime. Thankyou

I cannot recommend Adam and his team highly enough! They are incredibly professional, and I feel completely at ease choosing his company for our plumbing needs. They helped us solve a huge problem with two of our properties located in Kingston downtown. Both homes are over 60 years old, with extremely old and poorly maintained pipes that caused frequent clogs and issues for the upstairs residents. Adam is not only highly skilled and dedicated but also excellent with time management. He and his team completed all the work perfectly and on schedule, and they always cleaned up the work area thoroughly so we had no extra worries. They are punctual, professional, and truly trustworthy. We are very much looking forward to working with Adam on our next two projects: completing the renovations for both of our bathrooms!

Adam responded late Friday evening to an inquiry I had about a plumbing emergency. He was able to answer my questions and help come up with a game plan to get things addressed. Was blown away with the quick response time.

I had a great experience utilizing the services of Universal Plumbing. I think the owner understands that quality customer service is at the core of any successful business. I will definitely use them again in the future.

Remarkable service! Called late on Thursday to see if they would be available to scope a sewer line so my wife and I could decide to purchase a home. Adam answered immediately and assured us he would make a spot available the following day! Job completed. Thank you, thank you!!!!!! Home was purchased. Brent and Linda

Before you hire a plumber in Ontario

Yes. Plumber (306A) is a compulsory trade in Ontario - working without certification is illegal, not just inadvisable.

Certificate of Qualification, 306A Plumber

The individual doing the work must hold this, or be a registered apprentice working under someone who does. Ask for the certificate number and the name it is issued to. It belongs to a person, not a company.

Verify with: Skilled Trades Ontario maintains the public register of certified tradespeople.

General liability insurance

Two million dollars is the common floor for residential work. Water damage escalates fast, and a burst supply line during a renovation can exceed a small policy in an afternoon.

WSIB clearance

If a worker is injured on your property and the contractor has no coverage, you can be drawn into the claim. A clearance certificate is free for the contractor to pull and takes minutes.

Verify with: WSIB issues clearance certificates directly to the contractor on request.

TSSA gas technician certificate (only if gas is involved)

G1, G2 or G3 depending on scope. Required for anything connecting to a natural gas or propane line.

Verify with: The Technical Standards and Safety Authority regulates fuel safety in Ontario.

Questions worth asking

  • Is the person doing the work certified in 306A, or an apprentice being supervised? Both are fine. You just want to know.
  • Is this quote flat rate or time and materials? If hourly, what is the estimated range and what happens if it runs over?
  • Does the job touch a gas line, and if so who holds the TSSA certificate?
  • Does this need a municipal plumbing permit, and are you pulling it?
  • What is the warranty on labour, separately from the manufacturer warranty on parts?
